The reddish appearance of Red Oak reflects warmth and comfort, which beacons you to live and be content. The timber is more reddish and has a less pronounced grain pattern than normal European Oak.
Sapwood is lighter in colour than heartwood. Grain and colour is dependent upon the origin of the wood; upland Red Oak's, which tend to grow more slowly, generally have a more uniform grain pattern than lowland Red Oak's.
Janka-hardness 1290.
