If properly cared for, a hardwood floor has a long service life. Our floors are durable and easy to keep clean, but there are some
things you need to think about.

Cleaning and maintenance

As with many other products, a certain amount of maintenance is required to keep a floor in good condition. With proper maintenance, your hardwood floor will retain its beauty for years to come. Light floors, are typically more sensitive to wear-and-tear than dark ones, and therefore require more frequent cleaning and maintenance.

The best way to keep your hardwood floor in good condition is to stop dirt at the door by using mats and preventing scratching by means of felt pads under the furniture. To clean the floor, you only need to wipe it with a damp hardwood floor mop. A drop of neutral cleanser or conditioner/cleanser used for oiled hardwood is added to the washing water. Keep in mind, however, that it's only natural for life to leave its marks on a hardwood floor, adding character. Many people actually find this to be the best quality of a hardwood floor - and the reason to acquire one.

How to treat your wood floors

How you do maintain your wood floors depends on whether they have a lacquer or oil finish. If you’re unsure of this, you can always contact your retailer for more information.

Maintenance treatment of lacquered hardwood floors
Before you do any maintenance work, it’s important that your floors are clean. Vacuum any dust or dirt and wipe with Kährs Cleaner. If the floors are very dirty, you can use Kährs Remover. When the floors are clean and dry, use our lacquer refresher. There are products in our assortment for both high gloss and matt finishes.

Maintenance treatment of oiled hardwood floors
You must always treat oiled floors as soon as you’ve laid them with a product like Kährs Satin Oil. This gives the floor a protective membrane. When you treat oiled floors later, the process is the same as with lacquered floors, only with different products. Clean the floor with Kährs Cleaner then use Kährs Satin Oil. This product is also available for oiled wood floors with matte finishes.
